“’Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace,
as you have promised.
I have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared for all people.
He is a light to reveal God to the nations,
and he is the glory of your people Israel!’”
Mary and Joesph took Jesus to dedicate Him to the Lord just as the Law of Moses stated should be done. While there, the Holy Spirit led two people to the temple that day to bear witness to Jesus. One was Simeon and the other was the prophet Anna. Both were old in age, and both had been waiting for the Messiah. On this day, they were able to see God promise of salvation fulfilled.
